War in Ukraine

At the recent meeting of Dunscore Church Board we shared our horror, shock and sadness about the invasion of Ukraine and the suffering, injury and death that this is causing.

We discussed how we might best offer help and support. Although we regularly pray for all those affected and hope to show our support through lighting the church in the Ukrainian colours of blue and yellow, there was a strong wish to do something more to offer help in this quite horrific and exceptional situation.

The Board agreed to send a substantial amount of money from our reserves to the Church of Scotland appeal that is going to support the work of churches in Hungary (RCHA) who are offering refugees from Ukraine love, safety and sanctuary in their buildings. The RCHA helps those fleeing into Hungary, Slovakia or Romania who need food, shelter or any other support.

This is by far the largest donation that Dunscore Church has ever made to a charity but we feel that the situation is so horrific and is unprecedented in most of our lifetimes that it needs a response that reflects this.

The Board members are well aware that many people from the congregation and local community will already have donated to support the people of Ukraine and that some will not be in a position to do so but, if you would like to join us in supporting the work of the Churches in Hungary, you can do so by bank transfer. Please make your donation to the Church of Scotland directly at: Royal Bank of Scotland, Church of Scotland No 1 Account, Account no 00134859, Sort code 83 06 08. Reference RCHA donation. Please gift aid this if possible.

Any member of Dunscore Church Board will be happy to receive cash or a cheque (made out to “Dunscore Church (Ukraine)”) and we will forward this to the appeal.

Thank you.
